The Gothic Cathedral proclaims: Jesus Christ is the Center of History!

catedral de Toledo
I hope you read the beautiful page below that I have translated from the great French historian Emile Male.
Mr. Male specialized in the history of art, and his writings are a balm for the wounds opened in our souls by the vulgarity of our times.
He focuses on the Medieval Cathedral in the XIII century in France.  His work reads like a poem that transports our spirit far from the evils of our day: the horror of class struggle, envy, abortion, same-sex "marriage", pornography, financial scandals, radical Islamic terrorism and the general and terrible insecurity in which we live.

“In the entire Cathedral, we feel the certainty of faith; there is no doubt anywhere.  Even today, the Cathedral transmits a feeling of serenity to us, even if we don't pay much attention to it.
“For a moment, let us forget our anxieties, our systems.  Let us go to the Cathedral.  From afar, with its transepts, its spires, and its towers, it looks like a powerful ship setting out on a long voyage.  The city's entire population can fit without fear in its robust flanks.
“Let us draw close to the Cathedral.  In the portico, we meet Our Lord Jesus Christ, as does every man who enters this world.  He is the key to the enigma of life.
“The answer to all of our questions are found around Him. We learn how the world began and how it will end; each one is the statues is a symbol of one of the ages of the world, and indicate the measure of its duration.

“All men whose history is important for us to know are before our eyes -- they are those in the Old and New Testament that were symbols of Our Lord Jesus Christ -- since man only exists to the degree that he participates in the nature of the Savior.
"The others: kings, conquerors, philosophers, are only vain shadows.   As a result, the world and history become clear to us.
“But our own history is written alongside the history of this vast universe.   And then we learn that our life must be a fight: a fight against the nature of each season of the year, a fight against ourselves at all moments and its eternal consequences.
"The angels from the heights of heaven will grant a crown to those who fought well.   Is there room for doubt, or for mere uneasiness of spirit?”
