January 13 -- St. Hilary of Poitiers, A Saint Who Earned the Title "Hammer"

St. Hilary was born in Poitiers in the early part of the fourth century and died on January 13, 368.

After studying Holy Scripture , he renounced paganism, was baptized and became an ardent defender of the Faith.  He is noted in particular for his unrelenting opposition to Aryanism, which was spreading across Europe.

Several councils were convened to spread this error.  Many bishops spread it.  St. Hilary was rebuked harshly by the heretical clergy for his orthodoxy.  Finally, he was exiled for his zeal.

Unperturbed, St. Hilary used his time in exile to write and preach.  The power and number of his attacks on Aryanism were such that he was called "Hammer of the Arians".

The Protestants burned his relics in 1572.

Let us ask, St. Hilary, through the intercession of Our Lady, to be unrelenting in our opposition to error even if it should come from unlikely sources.

Today, Marquette University, a Catholic institution, hired a professor who has a 100% rating from NARAL.   He is FOR partial-birth abortion.  Let us act like St. Hilary and protest this attack on the Catholic faith:

Protest Catholic Marquette University for hiring a partial-birth-abortion politician
